Explosion-Proof Motors – MAK Series

Ex db, Ex db eb, IIB and IIC, II 2G and II 2GD, T3/T4/T5/T6

Introduction

The Euromotori MAK Series explosion-proof motors are designed in full compliance with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, which defines the essential safety requirements for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Compliance with these ATEX safety standards is confirmed by the CE certificate issued by CESI, Notified Body No. 0722.

Definition

An explosion-proof and flame-proof motor (Ex db, Ex db eb) is a rotating electrical machine specifically engineered to operate safely in hazardous environments where explosive gases, vapors, or flammable fumes are present — without posing a risk of ignition or internal damage.

These motors are designed to meet the following safety principles:

  • Explosion-proof: The housing resists internal explosions without cracking or rupturing, preventing external hazards.
  • Flame-proof: The motor’s enclosure prevents flames or hot gases from escaping, even under fault conditions or when exposed to high ambient temperatures.

Standards Compliance

Euromotori MAK Series motors are manufactured in accordance with the following European CENELEC standards:

  • EN 60079-0:2006 (General requirements)
  • EN 60079-1:2004 (Flameproof enclosures “d”)
  • EN 61241-0:2006 (Protection by enclosures for dust atmospheres)
  • EN 61241-1:2004 (Protection by enclosures “tD”)

As a result, these motors are fully suitable for installation in hazardous areas, as defined in EN 60079-10, EN 60079-14, and EN 60079-17 standards.
