Patras, Greece, 1951
Looking Back

The Christmas season had just ended—then, as now. In early January 1951, the city of Patras, with a population of 87,570, was slowly shaking off the festive stillness and returning to its daily rhythm. The people were eager to catch up with life: reconnecting, exchanging news, and setting their hopes on progress.

The local press captured the moment. Doctors and freelancers advertised their services, merchants promoted their goods, and a reporter filed a dispatch from Frankfurt, in what was then Western Germany, describing U.S. aid efforts helping a battered continent recover.

But 1951 marked more than just the end of a holiday. It marked the first steps forward after a global war. Greece was rebuilding. Industries were trying to regain momentum—and at 133 Maizonos Street, K. P. Yannakopoulos was doing his part. He promoted Valiadis Motors to support production and supply chains in a society still rising from the ashes of conflict.

It was Monday, January 8, 1951—a day like any other, yet filled with determination to begin again.

Power Ultrasonic Parts Cleaning
High-Frequency Cleaning Technology for Motor Longevity – Powered by UltraTecno

Before repairs begin, cleaning motor parts thoroughly is more than a good practice—it’s essential. Over time, components like rotors, bearings, cooling fins, and terminal blocks accumulate a mix of dirt, grease, oil, carbon deposits, and even residue from prior repairs.

Conventional cleaning methods often fall short—especially when it comes to fine geometries, internal passages, and hard-to-reach surfaces.

That’s where ultrasonic cleaning comes in.

Using high-frequency sound waves, this technique generates microscopic bubbles in a cleaning solution. As the bubbles collapse (a process known as cavitation), they gently and effectively remove contaminants—even from the most intricate surfaces—without damaging the part.

Benefits of ultrasonic cleaning:

  • Penetrates tight crevices and internal passages

  • Removes a wide range of contaminants, including grease, carbon, and rust

  • Safe for delicate parts

  • Environmentally friendly and chemical-efficient

  • Reduces the need for part replacement

  • Increases motor lifespan and efficiency

Whether used during routine servicing or as part of major overhauls, ultrasonic cleaning is a cost-effective way to preserve the health and performance of electric motors.

This is maintenance innovation—delivered by Valiadis S.A.

Regulation 2019/1781
EU Energy Efficiency Standards for Electric Motors

In accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1781, new efficiency standards for electric motors have been phased in across the European Union, with significant implications for the design, manufacture, and selection of compliant motors.

As of July 1st, 2021:

  • All three-phase electric motors from 0.75 kW to 1000 kW, at 2, 4, 6, and 8 poles, must meet minimum IE3 efficiency levels.

  • Motors from 0.12 kW to 0.55 kW must comply with minimum IE2 efficiency.

  • These rules apply even to motors used with variable speed drives, brake motors, and ATEX motors (except ATEX Ex eb and all single-phase motors, which are excluded at this stage).

As of July 1st, 2023:

  • All ATEX Ex eb explosion-proof motors from 0.12 kW to 1000 kW, and all single-phase motors from 0.12 kW, must now comply with IE2 efficiency.

  • In addition, three-phase motors from 75 kW to 200 kW, at 2, 4, or 6 poles, must comply with IE4 efficiency levels, except for brake motors and ATEX Ex be motors.

These regulations are part of the EU’s broader efforts to reduce energy consumption and drive sustainable industrial practices across member states.

At Valiadis S.A., we are fully prepared to guide our clients through these regulatory changes. Our product lines are compliant, our support team is informed, and we are committed to ensuring fast and accurate service during this transition.
